Empowering Excellence in Afghan Saffron – Crafted by Women, Trusted Worldwide.
Traditional Methods
Saffron cultivation is a meticulous process rooted in centuries of tradition. The saffron crocus, from which the spice is derived, blooms in the fall. Here’s a brief overview of the traditional methods involved

Cultivation
Saffron bulbs are planted in well-drained soil, typically in late summer. Farmers prepare the land by tilling and ensuring optimal conditions for growth.

Harvesting
The flowers bloom for a short period, usually in October and November. Harvesting is done by hand, early in the morning when the flowers are still closed. This delicate process requires skill to avoid damaging the blossoms.

Drying
Once harvested, the red stigmas (the saffron threads) are carefully separated from the flowers. They are then dried, often using traditional methods like air drying or low-heat ovens, to preserve their flavor and color.

Storage
Dried saffron is stored in airtight containers, away from light and moisture, to maintain its quality.
Founded in
2007
With support from the Dakar Institute, the Women’s Saffron Association was founded in the Pashtun Zarghon district of Herat, Afghanistan. The association’s core mission is to empower local women by advancing saffron cultivation and providing access to high-quality saffron bulbs, fostering both economic growth and agricultural innovation in the region.

We operate a state-of-the-art processing center and are proud holders of international certifications, including ISO22000 and FSSC22000, ensuring our products meet the highest quality standards.
Nagin
Nagin saffron is known for its high quality and distinctive flavor. It features long, thick red stigmas, offering a rich aroma and vibrant color. This grade is ideal for culinary uses, providing an exceptional taste experience in various dishes.
Super Nagin
Super Nagin is a premium grade of saffron that boasts the finest quality available. Its stigmas are even longer and more robust than those of standard Nagin saffron. With an intense aroma and deeper color, Super Nagin is highly sought after for gourmet cooking, luxury products, and high-end markets.
Pushal
Pushal saffron consists of both red stigmas and a portion of the yellow style, making it slightly less potent than Nagin and Super Nagin. However, it still offers good quality and is often used in everyday cooking. Pushal saffron is a more affordable option, making it accessible for various culinary applications without compromising too much on flavor and aroma.
